julian stetter might be best known as one half of the electronic pop duo vimes, but he is no stranger to the cologne club scene. his debut ep insides stems from a long history of djing and organising underground parties across the city. a resident dj and collaborator at colognes famed jackwho club, it was these surroundings that drove stetter to dive deep into producing. his first solo project is now set to be released on the label pnn. it features three tracks plus a remix by beyou. stetters sound is polished and the precise production of each three tracks make this ep feel far from debut. emily, the main track of the single, draws you in on shimmering waves that rise and break into a deeper and spacier sound. warm beats are interjected with random snippets of whale song. listening to emily feels like receiving a welcome hug at an after party.

an italian-spanish connection is always a good thing. the sort of sensual and mediterranean emotions that carlo and black loops can deliver, is a skill that has been taken far on this new ep. the dichotomy can prove difficult to square sometimes, particularly when the guys have different paths in their sound. but the mix is rich here. the intermission ep is a packed full of soul samples, warm pads, and great solid beats wrapped up as a soulful declaration. their massive love for music really shines through in this ep.

the album a little comedy, a little drama by dusty baron is the result of collaboration of moldavian fellows eugen kara, ivan slivka and dima scripnic. this collaboration has been lasting in the course of 2016, with miscellaneous recordings at home studios, including moldavian radio and television studio. inspired by french and italian psychedelic electronic music of 60s and 70s, cartoons and the comedian genre of absurd, the trio tried to incarnate their vision of the space into a lp comprising 13 tracks. vintage synthesiser lines and classic drum machines create a hugely entertaining blend intoxicated with universal love. now and then you trace the combinations of techno rhythms rushing into the futuristic vertical, and sometimes the sound transforms into a blend of absolute and exotically influenced reverie.

creme organization s jericho one label continues to set a fine agenda with its fifth ep, this time from dj plant texture aka dona basile, who also releases as dona and given. this is only his second ep under this alias, and is one that again marries breakbeats, techno and electro into electrifying new forms. things kick off with maybe sometimes , three minutes of brutal old school rave. maybe sometimes (2_3 psymono mix) is then a heavily filtered and stripped back version of the same tune that is brilliantly weird and otherworldly. lello from sda then picks up the pace once more with reversed stabs, slamming drums and rubbery bass all cut up with yelping vocals and dusty breaks that take you right back to the early 90s. on the flip, gargantuans is on a deeper and more trippy old school flex with bright pads and gurgling bass taking you higher, then cyclone (tribute to the 90 s) is just that with its frenzied drums, filters and euphoric breakdowns all run through with street fighter samples. d_one then ends the trip with a bit of ambient electronics, with odd sine waves and sharp sound designs placing you in an unhinged world.

nice price deal !!! airhead continues to impress and confound with his run of releases on r&s. his last release >wait/south congress< found itself gaining praise right across the board. it showcased his atmospheric guitar styles as well as his deft programming skills, resulting in some trying to pigeon-hole his sound in a post rock/electronica direction. this ep proves it not that easy to pin him down with two new tracks of fresh club music. pyramid lake again showcases his expert manipulation of samples, but this time weaves them into a drunken dance groove, full of whirring percussion and heavy bass. black ink is a bubbling, percussive roller that in the hands of a lesser producer would sound like a traincrash. it bounces along almost out of control and sucks you into its charms until it hits you with some uplifting, haunted chords, at which point it is impossible to resist.

experienced crate diggers are no doubt familiar with new birth, the 17-piece funk ensemble sampled on classic hip-hop records by wu-tang clan, de la soul, junior m.a.f.i.a., black sheep, lil wayne, ice cube, and many more. the genesis of new birth can be traced back to the nite-liters, a louisville-based instrumental outfit. founded in 1963 by motown songwriter/producer harvey fuqua and saxophonist tony churchill, the nite-liters released a handful of albums in the early 70s, scoring a few minor hits and perfecting the sound that would power new birth to further success as the decade progressed. while much of the the nite liters’ early material has been overlooked, their self-titled debut album is worth revisiting. originally released on rca records in 1970, the nite liters is a raw, soulful masterpiece that has been sampled by kmd, ghostface killah and others.

aesthete obfuscation (computer club) computer club presents aesthete (aka thom barnett) with his debut release obfuscation. a 4 track ep of bass-heavy minimalism. micro-precise percussion bursting through minimal electronics with chattering industrial machines, the 4 tracks take an experimental approach directly to the dance floor. we first encountered the unique aesthete sound in a dark former ballroom in sheffield in early 2016 and were mesmerised by his sonic assault. as the name suggests, barnett s skill isn t confined to audio. a talented designer, he runs mamnick, an internationally renowned brand sold online and via outlets including a flagship store in tokyo. mamnick clothes and items blend sheffield craftsmanship with a love of cycling and a sharp aesthetic eye. everything barnett turns his attention to is expertly crafted and this debut ep on computer club is no exception.

​,,one of the foundation artists on samurai horo, asc is an essential part of the labels rebirth with the ’geocentric systems’ ep. taking the grey area sound into heavier, darker territory, ‘aphelion’ and ‘perihelion’ formed the core of this ep with their fervent bpm trickery. these tracks are techno rebuilt with dizzying sensory loss, adding a weightless intensity that feels like a constant attack. ’passel’ and ‘geocentric systems’ offer a dubbed out version of the approach, heavy on the intricate sound design that has become the asc trademark.

kamikaze space programme is a sonic experimentalist, an artist led by fascination with sound as much as he is led by ‘destroying the dancefloor’ and for his first release on neighbourhood this fascination has manifested itself via eastern european cold war radio signals. side a ‘numbers stations’ finds its inspiration in encrypted shortwave radio used by spies for communication, espionage in the cold war era. side b ‘duga 3’ takes its stimulus from the duga 3 radar used between july 1976 to december 1989 by the soviet government as an early warning network for oncoming nuclear threats.

lywood has worked alongside some of the most prestigious names in art, fashion, music and film - from led zeppelin to louis vuitton, the venice biennale to the serpentine art gallery, in a career spanning over 20 years. junk sees lywood stepping into the limelight for the first time with these eight epic psychedelic dance-floor and spaced out instrumental visions. junk is inspired by vik muniz’s ground-breaking documentary waste land, which tells the story of the landfill site, jardim gramacho, on the outskirts of rio de janeiro. recycling fragments of german electronica, disco and 80’s synth from his childhood and fusing these with new, found sounds, lywood takes us on a journey through his world of junk re-imagined. five of the tracks are named after some of the largest landfill sites around the world, and trash vortex is named after the swirling mass of plastic waste the size of texas, in the north pacific. lywood stays close to muniz s mission to “change the lives of a group of people with the same material that they deal with everyday”. ** cover artwork by keith coventry, the celebrated fine artist represented by pace gallery** the debut cochabamba album comes courtesy of respected sound designer and fine artist dan lywood!
